Chrono is a network diagnostic tool that returns connection data
(ping, latency,
jitter,
packet loss) as a graded result to the user. Use this to predict your performance in multiplayer
games,
streaming, and more!
Chrono is meant to complement a traditional internet speed test. This is an
easy-to-use packet loss test made possible by
WebRTC. To run the app, just press the GO button below. You can also adjust parameters to your liking by
clicking the settings button.
What is packet loss?
A packet is a unit of data traveling over the internet using a protocol (typically
TCP or UDP). Packet loss occurs when one or more of these packets get lost on the way to their
destination. Typically, users will see this manifest as poor quality in a voice/video call or lag in a
multiplayer game.
What are latency, jitter and late packets?
Latency (also known as Ping) is the overall time it takes for a packet to reach its
destination and then return to the user. Jitter is a measure of variation in your latency. Packets are
considered "late" when their latency exceeds a certain value.
Frequency is measured in packets per
second. Duration of
the test is
measured
in seconds. Acceptable delay is the upper bound for packets that are considered
late.
